About Us

Long Island Back to Basics Basketball Camp is committed to providing fun, positive experiences along with outstanding basketball instruction.

The camp was started by Jim Douglas and Sean Boylan in 1997. They wanted to channel their passion for basketball into a program that would teach kids the fundamentals of the game in a fun, nurturing environment. Most of all, they wanted to give kids a chance to play. They felt this was essential in an age where so much time is spent watching television and playing video games. Jim and Sean have built what they envisioned and then some. The camp’s reputation in the community speaks for itself. Parents trust the staff, campers feel comfortable and ask to return each year.

Sean Boylan, a 1992 graduate of St. Dominic High School, played at the varsity level for four seasons. Sean scored over 1,200 points and was an All Long Island selection. Sean received a 4-year basketball scholarship to Merrimack College. Sean currently works in the Northport-East Northport School District and is the JV Boys Basketball Coach. He is co-director of the Community Drug & Alcohol Task Force and is certified in adult, child and infant CPR/AED and First Aid.

Jim Douglas is a graduate of Syracuse University and holds a Masters degree in Athletic Administration from Indiana University, Bloomington. Jim has over ten years of coaching experience at St. Dominic, William Floyd, Trinity-Pawling Prep School, St. Joseph College (L.I.) and Dowling College. Jim has coached at college camps, including Indiana, Kentucky, St. John’s and Stanford. Jim is also certified in adult, child and infant CPR/AED and First Aid.

Our coaches are high school basketball players, coaches in nearby school districts, and college basketball players. The staff is selected based on their moral character as well as their ability to teach, motivate and communicate with children.
