About Us
Back to Basics Basketball Camp was started by Jim Douglas and Sean Boylan in 1997. They wanted to channel their passion for basketball into a program that would teach kids the fundamentals of the game in a fun, nurturing environment. Most of all, they wanted to give kids a chance to play. They felt this was essential in an age where so much time was spent watching television and playing video games. Jim and Sean have built what they envisioned and more.
The camp’s reputation in the community speaks for itself. Parents trust the staff. Campers feel comfortable and ask to return each year.

FOUNDERS
Sean Boylan, a 1992 graduate of St. Dominic High School, played at the varsity level for four seasons. Sean scored over 1,200 points and was an All-Long Island selection. He was co-director of the Community Drug & Alcohol Task Force for 13 years, and he is certified in adult, child, and infant CPR/AED and First Aid.

Sean currently works as a social worker in the Northport-East Northport School District and is the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. Sean handles the camp's daily operations and is on site during all camp programs.
Jim Douglas has retired from Back to Basics. We are forever grateful for his 28 years of service and for Jim's tremendous contribution in helping to build Back to Basics in our community.

Our Goal
Back to Basics' goal is to impact youth in the game of life. We work hard to help each child improve their life skills and basketball skills; to help them become a team player at home, in school, and on the basketball court.
We are dedicated to helping kids reach their fullest potential as people!
